You do two dives in Lanzarote's Atlantic waters: one in shallow confined water to learn the basics, one in open water to experience the real thing. All scuba equipment is provided. If you decide to pursue full certification later, your open water dive counts toward the required training dives. No prior experience needed.
The water is already around you. You're in the shallows off Lanzarote, suited up, regulator in your mouth, and the guide is checking your mask one more time before you slip backward into the Atlantic. This is the confined water dive — the first of two — and it's where you learn the actual mechanics: how to clear your mask underwater, how to breathe steadily, how to move without panicking. It takes maybe an hour, and the depth is shallow enough that you can stand up if you need to. The equipment is all there waiting for you, so you don't show up with a bag of your own gear.
After that, you move to open water. Same day, usually, or the next morning depending on how the operation runs. Now you're actually diving — not in a pool, not in a confined bay, but in the real ocean around the island. The second dive is where it clicks. You're following the guide, watching the rock formations, maybe seeing something alive down there. Two dives total, no rush, no pressure to sign up for a full Open Water certification if you're not ready. But here's the thing: if you do decide to get certified within six months, that first open water dive counts toward your training dives, so you're not starting from zero.
Lanzarote's volcanic underwater landscape and calm Atlantic conditions make it a straightforward place to try this. You don't need to be fit or experienced — the program is built for people who've never breathed underwater before. The whole thing is designed to let you taste what diving actually feels like without the commitment of a multi-day course.
