Snorkel in Lanzarote with Guide: Small Group, All Equipment
Mask on, fins fitted, reef ahead: you control the pace in the water
Snorkelling with a guide in Lanzarote is a small-group activity where you learn to use your mask and fins safely, then swim at your own pace along the reefs near Puerto del Carmen. The guide stays with you in the water, points out marine life, and keeps you comfortable in a protected bay before moving to deeper reef exploration. Equipment, insurance and refreshments are included; the time in the water runs 45 to 60 minutes within a 2-hour session.
The Experience
You meet your instructor at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen and start on the beach in shallow water where you can stand and adjust to the mask and breathing. The guide walks you through how the snorkel works, how the wetsuit helps you float, and what to watch for underwater — then you move at your own comfort level. Once you're settled, the group swims out along the protected bay's edge, where the water is still shallow and easy to exit if you need to.
The real exploration happens when you're ready. The reefs outside the bay hold the underwater scenery — fish, rock formations, the life that makes snorkelling worth doing — and the guide stays with the group, pointing things out and making sure everyone is safe. You're not racing through a checklist of sites; you're swimming in a relaxed manner, watching what's below, and stopping when something catches your eye. The wetsuit keeps you warm and helps you stay afloat without effort, so you can focus on what's in front of your mask instead of fighting the water.
After you exit the water, there's a small snack and refreshments to bring you back. The whole session runs about 2 hours, but the actual time underwater is 45 to 60 minutes — enough to see something real without the fatigue that makes a first snorkel feel like a chore. Small groups mean the guide can watch everyone and adjust the pace if someone needs it; families with kids as young as 8 can come along as long as they're comfortable swimming.

What do I need to know about snorkelling if I've never done it before?
Snorkelling in Lanzarote starts in shallow water where you can stand and practice breathing through the snorkel tube before the group moves deeper. Your guide teaches you how to clear water from the tube, how the mask sits, and how to stay relaxed — it's designed as an introductory experience, so the pace is gentle and you control how far out you go.
Will I be warm enough in the water?
A wetsuit is included and keeps you warm while also helping you float effortlessly on the surface. The water temperature in Lanzarote varies by season, and the guide will brief you on conditions before you enter.
How many people will be in the group?
Groups are kept small so the guide can watch everyone and adjust the experience to the group's comfort level. This also means more attention to spotting marine life and keeping the session relaxed rather than rushed.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day I'm booked?
Snorkelling requires certain weather conditions to be safe. If poor conditions make the activity unsafe, you'll be offered an alternative date or a full refund.
Can my 8-year-old come snorkelling?
Children as young as 8 can join as long as they're comfortable swimming and can follow the guide's instructions in the water. The small-group format and shallow-water start make it manageable for families.
What's included in the price?
The price covers all snorkel equipment (mask, fins, snorkel tube, wetsuit), insurance, the certified guide, and refreshments and a small snack after the session. You don't need to bring or rent gear separately.
