Your First Dive in Lanzarote: What 6 Meters Reveals

You arrive at the boat, get a 20-minute equipment briefing from a licensed guide, descend to 6 meters for a 40–50 minute dive where you watch small reef life and learn basic underwater skills, then return to the surface with water and a snack included. Transport, full gear, and insurance are all arranged—you just show up and breathe.

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Receive equipment explanation
  • Familiarize with scuba gear
  • Enter the water
  • Discover underwater world

The Experience

Hands adjust the regulator, checking the seal one more time before stepping backward off the boat. It's you, about to breathe underwater for the first time, and the guide is right there—licensed, calm, watching every movement. The descent to 6 meters takes maybe a minute. Your ears pop once. Then the noise stops and the reef opens up. Small fish dart between rocks. A cuttlefish hovers near the sand, color-shifting. You're moving slowly, deliberately, and everything feels possible because someone trained knows exactly where you are and what you're doing.

The whole thing—from the moment you arrive until you're back on the boat—takes about 40 to 50 minutes in the water, but the real time is the 20 minutes before that, when the guide walks you through the equipment on the boat. Mask, fins, BCD, tank. They show you how to clear your mask underwater (you will do this, and it works). They explain the hand signals. They ask if you have questions. No one rushes. Transport is included, so you don't navigate to the dive site yourself; the boat picks you up, takes you out, and brings you back. The water around Lanzarote at 6 meters isn't dramatic—it's not a wall of coral or a shipwreck—but it's alive. Small life, the description says. Wrasse, maybe a grouper. You never know what else might show up.

What you're paying for isn't just the dive. It's the licensed guide who stays with you the entire time, the full scuba equipment so you don't rent separately, the insurance that covers you in the water, and the water and snack after you surface. No experience required means exactly that—they've taught people who've never put on a tank before, and the pace is built around learning, not rushing through a checklist. The 6-meter depth is shallow enough that panic doesn't make sense, deep enough that you feel like you've actually gone somewhere.
