The experience

“If you want the photo, patience is your ticket,” our guide Wayan grinned as we shuffled closer to the Gates of Heaven at Lempuyang Temple. He’d already shown us how to tie our sarongs (mine kept slipping), and told us about the mountain spirits watching over this place. The wait was longer than I expected, over an hour, but somehow it didn’t bother me. Balinese families chatted quietly behind us, and a breeze carried incense from somewhere up the hill.
