You’ll wander through Bali’s most iconic spots—from sunrise at Lempuyang Temple’s Gate of Heaven to feeding koi in Tirta Gangga’s royal pools and swinging high above jungle valleys. Taste local coffee on a plantation walk and stroll Tegalalang’s emerald rice terraces. With private transport, lunch included, and a guide who feels more like a friend than a chaperone—you’ll feel both cared for and free to soak up every moment.
Hands pressed together, our guide Wayan greeted us before sunrise—he’d already set bottled water in the car and grinned when I tried to say “Selamat pagi.” The drive out from Ubud felt like a slow reveal: mist hanging over rice paddies, motorbikes zipping past, the smell of clove cigarettes drifting through the window. At Lempuyang Temple—the Gate of Heaven—there was a hush I didn’t expect. Locals in bright sashes offered flowers and incense; Wayan showed us how to tie a sarong properly (mine kept slipping) before he somehow turned into a pro photographer, lining up that classic shot with Mount Agung floating behind us. It’s funny, I thought it would feel touristy but honestly, there was something about the mountain air and the quiet that stuck with me.
Tirta Gangga Water Palace was next—so green it almost hurt my eyes. The stepping stones across koi ponds looked easy until I nearly slipped (Wayan laughed, then offered his hand). He told stories about the last king who built this place—something about royal baths and ceremonies—and helped us feed the koi with little pellets that made them swarm around our ankles. There’s this faint scent of frangipani everywhere. Lunch at Lereng Agung Ristorante was simple but good—spicy tempeh, fresh veggies, all while clouds drifted around Mount Agung outside. Honestly, I could’ve just sat there for hours watching the light change.
Then came the Bali Swing—I’m not really a thrill-seeker but somehow peer pressure (and maybe too much coffee at Cantik Agriculture) got me up there. The harness bit into my leg as they counted down in Bahasa Indonesia; suddenly you’re flying out over jungle so green it looks fake. My stomach dropped but I couldn’t stop laughing. Later we tried luwak coffee—earthy and strong—and some herbal teas under banana trees while Wayan explained how everything’s picked by hand here. He introduced us to one of the farmers; she smiled shyly and let us try roasting beans for a minute (I definitely burned mine).
We finished at Tegalalang Rice Terrace—a patchwork of terraces glowing gold in late afternoon sun. A couple of farmers waved from down below; Wayan pointed out how water flows through these fields using old subak channels. He snapped a few more photos for us (my hair was wild by then). Walking back up the path, legs muddy and tired, I realized I hadn’t checked my phone all day—just kind of living inside it all for once.
