The Experience
Your guide meets you inside Alexandria port with a sign bearing your name, then drives you by private air-conditioned van to Cairo, arriving around 10 a.m. The route covers 220 kilometers, but the timing is built so you return to port three hours before your ship leaves. You visit the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the middle pyramids of Chephren and Mykerinos, and the Sphinx: the three monuments that anchor the Giza plateau.
After Giza, you move to Saqqara, where the step pyramid of Djoser stands as the oldest complete stone building complex in history. The site holds sixteen royal pyramids across different states of preservation, along with the Pyramid of Unas (smallest of the Old Kingdom pyramids but the first to carry Pyramid Texts inscribed into its burial chambers) and the Pyramid of Teti. The Mastaba of Ti, discovered by Auguste Mariette, shows everyday scenes carved into its walls and belonged to a senior official and royal architect of the Fifth Dynasty. Then you travel to Memphis, the ancient capital, to see the Colossal Statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. On the return to Alexandria, you stop for photos of the famous library and the lighthouse before heading back to your cruise ship.
Lunch at a local restaurant and a complimentary bottle of water are included. All entrance fees, taxes and services are built into the price, and the guide speaks English, Spanish or Arabic depending on your choice at booking. Your passport photo is required during the reservation process.
