The Experience

The Egyptian Museum comes first, while your mind is still sharp. Your guide walks you through rooms of artifacts — statues, sarcophagi, papyri — and stops in front of the golden mask of Tutankhamun. The detail work is so precise it's almost hard to look at directly. The guide explains the dynasties, the burial practices, the symbolism carved into everything. You're standing in front of objects that have been here for decades, in a building that feels like it's holding its breath. After the museum, lunch happens at a local restaurant — grilled chicken, kebab, kofta, the kind of meal that tastes better when you're hungry and far from home.

Then the Giza Plateau. The Great Pyramid of Cheops appears first, and even though you've seen photographs, the scale doesn't translate through a screen.
