Day 1: Giza pyramids, Saqqara and Memphis tour

The experience

Your guide meets you at your hotel at 8 am on day one and drives you to the Giza Plateau to walk among the Great Pyramids and the Great Sphinx, with entry to the plateau included. From there the route moves south to Saqqara, where the Step Pyramid of King Zoser stands as the first stone building in history, and you can see the tombs of the nobles carved into the rock. The day ends in Memphis, the ancient capital dating back to 3100 BC, where the colossal statue of Ramses II and the Alabaster Sphinx sit in the open-air museum.

Day two starts with a pickup at 8 am and takes you to the Grand Egyptian Museum, one of the world's largest collections of antiquities, before moving to the Saladin Citadel and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali: the alabaster mosque that dominates the Cairo skyline. After that, you choose: Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, where the narrow streets fill with souvenir shops, coffeehouses serving Arabic coffee and shisha, and restaurants, or Coptic Cairo, where some of Egypt's oldest churches stand, including the Hanging Church and the Cavern Church, plus the Ben Ezra Synagogue.

The tour is private, so the pace and stops move at your rhythm, and your Egyptologist guide speaks English, Spanish or Arabic. Hotel pickup and drop-off are included. If you're staying at an airport hotel, there's an additional charge of $20 for that pickup. Entry to the Giza Plateau, Saqqara and Memphis is included with the all-inclusive option. If you book without tickets, you can add them at checkout or arrange them on the day. If you want to enter inside one of the pyramids themselves, that's an extra ticket available when you arrive.
