The experience

You start at 8am from your Hanoi hotel with your guide and Easy Rider, who briefs you on the Ha Giang Loop map before the ride begins. Day one takes you through Quan Ba Heaven Gate and its Twin Mountains, then down the legendary Bac Sum Pass (a steep, winding road compared to a dragon's spine) before climbing Tham Ma Pass with its hairpin turns and panoramic drops. By evening you reach Dong Van Town, a historic highland trading center where you can explore the ancient town after dinner. You sleep in a private room or bungalow with a private bathroom at a homestay in Dong Van.

Day two is the longest ride: you cross Ma Pi Leng Pass with its dramatic mountain walls, stop to swim in the crystal-clear Ban An Stream, then trek through the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark. The trek passes through Pải Lủng Village with its rocky terrain and Hmong corn farmers, cuts through a bamboo forest at Thào Lủng, and climbs to Sả Lủng Village on high rocky ground. You take a bamboo raft down Ban An Stream (a hidden waterway and cave system), and have lunch on the raft before heading to Du Gia Village, where you stay another night in a luxury homestay bungalow.

The final day starts at 9am after breakfast in Du Gia. You visit Lung Tam Weaving Village, where Hmong artisans have preserved a 200-year-old linen weaving tradition since 1996. You can try weaving yourself and buy linen products directly from the cooperative. Then you stop in Nam Dam Village for lunch at a local home, exploring its rice terraces and Dao culture. The bus picks you up at 4:30pm to return you to Hanoi, Sapa or Ninh Binh depending on your option.
