The experience
The jeep picks you up from your hotel or homestay around 7:30 am on Day 1 and heads to a meeting point for breakfast and a tour briefing. Once you're in the open-air jeep, the route climbs through Bac Sum Pass to Quan Ba Heaven Gate at 1,500 meters, where you stop to take in the valley below. From there you visit Quan Ba Twin Mountains, Nam Dam village, and Trang Kim Valley, where you can watch local weavers at work. The afternoon takes you up Can Ty Pass for panorama views of the huge valley, then down to Yen Minh for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, the jeep follows Tham Ma Road (one of Ha Giang's most famous slopes), before heading to the Hmong King's Palace, a grand mansion built between 1898 and 1907 with a mix of Chinese and Hmong architecture. You end Day 1 in Dong Van town, staying overnight in a private room at a traditional house.
Day 2 starts after breakfast with a drive through Dong Van and onto Ma Pi Leng Pass, where you can walk the sky path if the weather and your fitness allow it. The pass overlooks the Nho Que River in a deep valley below. The views are the reason this pass is on every Ha Giang itinerary. The jeep continues through the pass, stopping at viewpoints for photos, then heads to Meo Vac town. Along the way you stop at M Road and Mau Hue Valley for more panorama views before lunch at a local restaurant. The afternoon drive takes you to Du Gia Village, where you'll stay another night in a traditional house. Before checking in, you visit Du Gia waterfall and can swim if you want.
