The Experience

We set off from Ha Giang just after breakfast—no time for nerves, really, because our guide Minh was already grinning and handing out helmets. The bikes rumbled to life (louder than I expected) and the first climb up Pac Sum Pass was all switchbacks and mist. My hands were tight on the handlebars but Minh kept pointing out tiny villages tucked into the folds of the valley. It smelled like wet earth and woodsmoke.
