The experience

The tour leaves Ha Giang City at 7:30 am on day one and climbs into the highlands toward Quang Ba, where you hike around the Twins Hill before heading to Vuong King's Palace. A mansion that blends H'Mong, French and Chinese architecture and tells the story of the 70,000 H'Mong people who lived under the Vuong family's rule. By late afternoon you reach Dong Van, check into your accommodation and have time to walk the old town night market on foot before dinner. Day two starts at 8:30 am with the drive to Ma Pi Leng Pass. You stop at the monument, panorama viewpoint and "death cliff" for photos, then take a boat down the Nho Que River to see Tu San canyon from the water. Lunch happens in Meo Vac town, and by 5:30 pm you're back in Ha Giang City. An optional sleeper bus transfer from Hanoi can be arranged separately.

An English-speaking guide and a driver trained on mountain roads travel with you the whole way. The car option seats your group in a modern bus. The motorbike option puts you on a bike with helmet included. Either way, entrance tickets to Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark and all other sites are covered, as are two bottles of water per person. Breakfast and dinner are included both nights. Lunch on day two is at your own cost. Accommodation is twin-share in Dong Van, and children from age 4 are welcome.
