The Experience
The tour starts at Strawberry House in Ha Giang City and heads straight into the highlands. Day one takes you up Bac Sum Slope—a winding mountain pass with sheer drops and terraced fields spreading across the valleys below—then through the Twin Mountains to Lung Khuy Cave, where stalactites and stalagmites fill a series of underground chambers. You'll stop at Lung Tam, a Hmong village where families still weave linen by hand using techniques passed down for generations, and at Cán Ty to see the Mien River Gorge and ancient ironwood forest. The day ends in Yên Minh, where you sleep in a local homestay and eat dinner cooked by the family.
Day two climbs two of Ha Giang's most notorious roads: Tham Ma Slope, known for its sharp S-curves through limestone mountains, and the Nine Turns Slope, where even horses hesitate. You reach the Hmong King's Palace, a mansion built in the early 1900s that cost 150,000 Indochinese silver coins, then drive to the Lung Cu Flag Tower at Vietnam's northernmost point, where you stand at the country's highest elevation and look across the border into China. The afternoon takes you through Lo Lo Chai, a village built around community tourism, before you settle into another homestay in Dong Van for the night.
The final day heads toward the Nho Que River through some of the province's most dramatic scenery. The Sky Walk viewpoint—also called Death Cliff—sits high above the mountains with a sheer drop and panoramic views of the winding roads below. Ma Pi Leng Pass, considered the king of Vietnam's mountain passes, winds through towering cliffs and deep valleys with the emerald-green river visible far below. You'll pass the M-shaped curve, a striking road feature carved into the limestone, and Thai An Waterfall on the way back to Ha Giang City, where the tour ends at Strawberry House.

What's the difference between the shared group tour and the self-drive motorbike option?
The shared group tour includes professional drivers and a guide who rides with you; the self-drive option means you rent a motorbike and ride it yourself while the guide travels separately and meets you at each stop. Both include the same entrance fees, homestays and meals.
Do I need a motorbike license to do the self-drive option?
Yes, a valid motorcycle license is required for the self-drive motorbike option. The shared group tour requires no license—you're a passenger in a vehicle with a professional driver.
What is Lung Khuy Cave actually like inside?
Lung Khuy Cave has a series of chambers filled with stalactites and stalagmites that create an underground landscape. The cave was discovered in 2015 and sits surrounded by the rugged highlands of Ha Giang.
Where do I sleep on this tour?
You stay two nights in local homestays—one in Yên Minh and one in Dong Van—where you sleep with a local family and eat meals they prepare. The tour includes a free dorm room at Strawberry House before the tour starts if you need it.
Are meals included in the tour price?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included throughout the three days. You eat with local families at the homestays and at stops along the route, featuring local specialties from the region.
What entrance fees are covered?
The tour includes entrance fees for Lung Khuy Cave, the Hmong King's Palace, the Lung Cu Flag Tower, and access to the Nho Que River. All major attractions on the itinerary are covered in the price.
