The experience

You start in Ha Giang City and head north into the mountains on Day 1, climbing Bac Sum Pass with its winding roads and terraced rice fields, then stopping at Quan Ba Heaven Gate for panoramic views of the surrounding valleys. The Twin Mountains (also called Fairy Bosom) come next. A distinctive geological formation you can photograph and learn about through local legend. Lung Khuy Cave offers stalactites and stalagmites to explore with a guide, and Lung Tam Village shows you traditional weaving at work in the streets. You end the day in Nam Dam Village, staying in a homestay where you experience Dao culture and eat authentic local food.

Day 2 takes you through Yen Minh Viewpoint and the dramatic Tham Ma Pass, known for steep cliffs and challenging curves. Lung Cam Valley opens up with terraced fields and rural farming life, then you reach Hmong King's Palace, a historical site built in the early 20th century with intricate traditional architecture. Lung Cu Flagpole, the northernmost point of Vietnam at over 1,400 meters, offers sweeping views before you arrive in Dong Van Old Town to wander ancient streets and explore the region's history. Another homestay night follows, this time in a charming rural setting.

Day 3 is built around Ma Pi Leng Pass, one of Vietnam's most dramatic mountain roads. The Sky Path (a walking trail along the cliff edge) is the centerpiece, offering views of rugged peaks and deep valleys with nowhere to go but forward and back. Nho Que River sits below in emerald water between towering cliffs. A boat ride (additional fee) gets you closer to the canyon walls. Tu San Canyon, carved by the river, is equally spectacular and also offers optional boat access. You visit Mau Due Village and stop at Lung Ho Viewpoint before settling into Du Gia Village for the night, another homestay with traditional charm.

The final day starts at Du Gia Waterfall, where you can swim in clear water and rest in the forest. Duong Thuong Viewpoint and Little Ma Pi Leng follow, both offering sweeping panoramas and dramatic cliff scenery. You return to Ha Giang City by afternoon, ending at the homestay there before heading home. The tour includes an air-conditioned vehicle with an experienced driver or a motorbike with an easyrider, your choice at booking. Admission fees and boat rides for included stops are covered, as are helmets and protective gear if you choose the motorbike option.
