The Experience

The morning started with me realizing I’d left my sunglasses in the hotel lobby—classic. The Heritage Village was a bit more relaxed; I watched an old man weaving baskets with hands that moved so fast I almost missed it. There was this moment at the date market where I tried to haggle for a box of dates and got hopelessly out-bargained by an eight-year-old girl—I think she took pity on me in the end.

The Corniche felt breezy after all that heat—families picnicking, kids running around, someone selling sweet tea from a cart. We had just enough time to peek into the Louvre Abu Dhabi (I only saw three galleries before getting distracted by the light patterns on the ceiling). And then Ferrari World: not really my thing usually, but my heart nearly jumped out of my chest when we watched people shoot off on that rollercoaster. The whole day was this mix of calm and chaos—one minute you’re lost in silence under mosque domes, next you’re laughing at yourself for mispronouncing “Qasr.” Still thinking about those purple sunglasses.
