The experience

The boat leaves Portimão heading east along the coast, passing the castle at Ferragudo before opening up to the water. Along the route you move through a series of sea caves carved into the cliffs: some narrow enough that the boat slows to thread through them, others tall enough to reveal the rock formations inside. The caves depend on the sea state. Calmer days mean access to more of them, rougher conditions mean fewer. All along this stretch the coastline shifts between sandy coves and dramatic vertical rock.

Benagil Cave is the centerpiece. If sea conditions allow, the boat enters it completely: a cathedral-sized cavern with a natural opening at the top and a beach inside. The cave is the most famous stop on the Algarve coast, and the boat gives you the vantage point most people travel to see. Past Benagil, the route curves around the sea arches at Praia da Marinha, a beach ranked among Europe's best. The boat stops here and you can swim if you want to. The water is clear and the cliffs frame the whole scene.
