The Experience

I still feel the salt on my skin from that morning in Portimão. We squeezed onto the little boat—maybe ten of us, tops—and our guide João grinned like he knew something we didn’t. The ride was quick but jumpy. Every time we ducked into a new cave, I’d catch this echo—our voices bouncing off rock, then fading under dripping water.
