The Experience

You're standing at Portimão harbor early in the morning, and there's that pull — the kind you get when you know something's about to happen that you won't quite be able to describe later. The boat holds ten people maximum, which means no crowds, no jostling for the rail. You leave the marina and head west along the Algarve coast, and the cliffs start to rise. The water is so clear you can see the seabed shift colors beneath you. After Benagil, the boat continues to Praia da Marinha, a beach that gets called one of the most beautiful in the world often enough that you wonder if it's hype until you see it. Towering cliffs frame a crescent of sand and pristine water, and it's accessible only by boat — there's no road down, no crowds walking in from a parking lot.
