Benagil Cave cruise from Portimão: Afternoon sailing
You board smaller boats inside the caves instead of viewing them from the water.
An afternoon sailing cruise from Portimão on a masted vessel takes you southeast along the Algarve coast to Benagil Cave and other sea caves, where you transfer to smaller boats to explore inside. The 2.5-hour trip passes fishing villages, beaches and rock formations, with a swim stop near Alfanzina lighthouse before returning by engine power. A live guide in English, Spanish or Portuguese narrates the route.
Step-by-step itinerary

The experience
The cruise departs Portimão harbor and sets sail toward the Alfanzina lighthouse, passing Ferragudo and the beaches of Carvalho, Benagil and Praia da Marinha. You'll see Algar Seco, Vale Centianes and Armação de Pêra from the deck. The masted sailing vessel carries shade on all decks and large seating benches, with space to walk around as the coast unfolds.
At Alfanzina the boat drops anchor for a swim. From there, you board smaller traditional cave boats to enter Benagil Cave and explore the other sea caves the route passes. These smaller vessels let you go inside the formations instead of viewing them from offshore. After the cave exploration, the crew returns you to Portimão by engine power, passing close to the rocks and beaches along the way.
Life jackets, professional sea crew, clean restrooms and insurance are included. The boat is wheelchair accessible, and infants can travel in a pram or stroller. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The cruise runs subject to favorable weather. If poor conditions force a cancellation, you can reschedule or receive a full refund.
