The Experience

The first thing I noticed when we stepped through Bab Bou Jeloud was the sound—just this constant, living hum of voices and footsteps echoing off blue-tiled walls. Inside Fez Medina it’s honestly like time folds in on itself. We ducked into Bou Inania Madrasa—Hassan pointed out the cedar carvings and tilework, running his hand along the wall like he’d done it a hundred times. He explained how students used to live upstairs, memorizing Quranic verses by candlelight. The quiet inside was almost heavy compared to the noise outside.
