The Experience

The first thing that hit me in the Fez Medina was the sound—layers of voices bouncing off old stone, someone calling out prices for oranges, then a motorbike weaving through (way too fast if you ask me). Our guide Youssef met us right at our riad door—he knew every shortcut, every turn. We ducked under arches and into these impossibly narrow lanes where sunlight barely made it down. I remember brushing against a wall covered in faded tiles, cool even though it was already warming up outside.

We stopped at Bab Bou Jeloud—the Blue Gate. It’s funny because from one side it’s blue and from the other it’s green (Youssef explained why but honestly I got distracted by the smell of fresh bread).
