The experience

The Medina of Fez el-Bali is a labyrinth: more than 300 neighborhoods and almost 9,400 alleys woven together in a pattern only locals can read without a map. A private guide walks you through the most important passages, pointing out the streets that matter and explaining what you are standing in. Four hours is enough to see the core of the Old City without rushing through it, and because the tour is private, you can linger at a stop that catches you or skip ahead if something does not.

Your guide is official and speaks either English or French fluently. Hotel pickup is included, so if you are staying elsewhere in Fez or arriving without a rental car, the logistics are settled before you book. The itinerary is built to be complete, but it is not fixed. Tell your guide what you want to see more of, and the route adjusts. Children from age 5 can join. Younger children can ride in a pram or stroller on the wider passages.

Entrance to individual monuments inside the Medina is not included in the tour price, so if you want to step inside a specific mosque, madrasa or museum, budget separately for those tickets. The guide will tell you which ones are worth the entry and which are visible from the street.
