Four hours, five neighborhoods, twenty tastings — how Trastevere's oldest restaurants feed you

You walk through Trastevere with a local guide, stopping at five venues over four hours for over 20 tastings — aged balsamic and truffles, pizza with craft beer, award-winning cheeses and cured meats, handmade pasta, and gelato. Wine is poured at each stop. Groups max out at 15 people, and the pace lets you taste without rushing. You don't arrange the route, book the restaurants, or figure out what to order — the guide handles it all.

4h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Start at Trapizzino
  • Taste Parmigiano Reggiano with aged balsamic
  • Try truffles and Roman suppli
  • Drink D.O.C.G Pecorino Romano wine
  • Taste pizza al taglio with craft beer
  • Visit La Prosciutteria salumeria
  • Sample Mozzarella, Pecorino, and Gorgonzola cheeses
  • Choose Parma, San Daniele, or Salami ham
  • Drink DOCG Chianti wine
  • Enjoy handmade ravioli and gnocchi pasta dishes
  • Drink D.O.C.G Vermentino wine
  • End at Fatamorgana gelateria
  • Learn to identify real gelato
  • Taste pistacchio and limone gelato flavors

The Experience

The tour starts at Trapizzino before most of Rome has finished its coffee. Your guide is already waiting, and the first thing on the plate is Parmigiano Reggiano drizzled with 30-year-aged balsamic vinegar, truffles scattered on top, and a Roman suppli on the side — a fried rice ball that tastes nothing like what you'd expect. A glass of D.O.C.G Pecorino Romano wine arrives with it. This is not a snack. This is the pace for the next four hours.

From there you move through Trastevere on foot, cobblestone to ivy-covered wall to the next door. The second stop is pizza al taglio from one of the best pizzerias in Rome, paired with Italian craft beer — prosciutto with fig, fresh ricotta with baby zucchini, the kind of combinations that sound simple until you taste them. Then La Proscuitteria, an award-winning salumeria where the choice between Parma ham, San Daniele, and Salami takes longer than you'd think, and the cheeses — Mozzarella di bufala, Pecorino Romano, sweet Gorgonzola — come with a glass of D.O.C.G Chianti. The group stays under fifteen people, which means you're not shuffling through in a crowd. Your guide points out the history between stops, the architecture, the way the neighborhood actually works, not the way it looks in photos.

Handmade pasta comes next at a local favorite — ravioli filled with ricotta and spinach, gnocchi with four cheeses, a D.O.C.G Vermentino to go with it. And then, because the tour is four hours and not three, it ends at Fatamorgana gelateria with an actual lesson in how to spot real gelato from the fake stuff. Pistachio from Sicily, limone from the Amalfi Coast. Unlimited food and wine are offered if you want more, which most people do by this point.

The whole thing moves at a pace that lets you taste, not rush. You don't arrange transport between stops, you don't figure out which restaurant to trust, you don't stand in line deciding what to order. The guide does that. You show up at Trapizzino, and the food tour through Trastevere is already in motion.

What’s included

Your four-hour tour includes a local foodie guide, bottled water, and all food and wine tastings as per the itinerary: Parmigiano Reggiano with aged balsamic and truffles at Trapizzino, pizza al taglio with craft beer, cured meats and cheeses at La Proscuitteria with Chianti, handmade pasta with Vermentino, and gelato education at Fatamorgana. Unlimited additional food and wine are available if you wish to eat and drink more.
