The Experience

The boat leaves from Sorrento and heads straight to Capri's main port, then begins circling the island. You'll pass working fishing spots where the guide shares local knowledge about the waters and the people who work them. The Green Grotto comes first—the water turns that color because of how the sun hits the rock—and you can swim and snorkel there. The White Grotto follows, with stalactites and stalagmites visible from the boat, and the guide tells the story of each one.

Marina Piccola is where you get off the boat and spend free time on land. It's a small village with a beach, shops, and restaurants where you can eat, drink or just sit. Some travelers fish from the boat here if the catch is running. The guide points out what's worth doing in the time you have, then you rejoin the boat for the sail back. Along the way you'll pass the Faraglioni—the three rock formations that are Capri's most photographed spot—and the guide will set up a photo and break out prosecco for a toast.

The boat has shaded and sunny seating, a restroom on board, and a comfortable layout for a full day on the water. Snorkeling equipment, life jackets, bottled water, soft drinks, beer and snacks are all included. The skipper is an expert on these waters and knows where the fish are and what the currents do. The Blue Grotto is not part of this tour because the line to enter it is very long; the other grottos and the swimming time make up the day instead.
