Step-by-step itinerary

Uluwatu Temple and Jimbaran Beach Sunset

  • Visit Padang-padang beach
  • Explore Uluwatu temple and monkey forest
  • Watch kecak fire dance and sunset
  • Dinner and sunset at Jimbaran beach

The experience

Uluwatu Temple sits on a cliff at the southern tip of Bali, a 1000-year-old seaside pagoda that draws visitors for the dramatic drop to the sea and the monkeys that live in the forest around it. The tour starts at Padang-Padang Beach, a 100-meter stretch on the Bukit Peninsula known for surfing and the views across the water, giving you time to settle into the rhythm of the coast before heading to the temple. The driver handles the route and explains what you're seeing along the way.

At Uluwatu Temple, you watch the Kecak fire dance as the sun drops toward the horizon: the performers move in synchronized rows, chanting and swaying while the light shifts from gold to orange to deep red. The dance and the sunset happen at the same time, the two events layered so that the performance and the fading daylight reinforce each other. You stand on the clifftop while it unfolds, the sea visible beyond the temple grounds.

After the dance, the tour ends at Jimbaran Beach, a wide stretch of white sand lined with cafes and restaurants where the water stays calm. If you choose the dinner option at checkout, you eat here. If not, you have time to walk the beach or sit and watch the last light leave the sky. The beach is quiet and the vendors are low-key, a different pace from the temple crowds. Your driver brings you back to your hotel when the day is done.

Is this one for you?Choose the option with dinner if you want a full evening that ends with a meal on the sand. Pick the base tour if you prefer to eat elsewhere or keep the day shorter. The clifftop setting and the crowds at sunset are part of what makes the temple famous, so this tour is best for travelers comfortable with heights and busy spaces.

Top questions

What languages is the guide in?

Live guide in English, Italian and Malay.

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Child (4 to 9 years); Infant (under 2): free.

What is the Kecak dance and when do I see it on this tour?

The Kecak is a fire dance performed by a group of men who chant, move in formation, and use fire as part of the show. On this tour, you watch it at Uluwatu Temple as the sun sets, so the performance and the fading daylight happen at the same time.

Can I visit Uluwatu Temple if I'm not comfortable with heights or crowds?

Uluwatu Temple sits on a cliff with open views of the sea, so heights are part of the experience. The temple grounds do fill with visitors, especially at sunset when the dance happens. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.

Does the tour include dinner, or is that something I add?

Dinner at Jimbaran Beach is optional. You choose at checkout whether to add it. The base tour includes the temple, the dance, and time at the beach, but not a meal.

What's included in the pickup, and which hotels does the driver reach?

Hotel pickup is included and covers Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Legian, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, and Sanur. The driver collects you in the morning and returns you at the end of the day. Bottled water and an air-conditioned vehicle are part of the service.

How much time do I spend at Padang-Padang Beach before heading to the temple?

Padang-Padang Beach is the first stop and takes about 2 hours including travel time from your hotel. It's a chance to see one of Bali's famous southern beaches and settle in before the temple and dance.

Are there monkeys at Uluwatu Temple, and can I interact with them?

Monkeys live in the forest around Uluwatu Temple and you'll see them on the grounds. The tour includes time to observe them, though the driver will advise on how to stay safe around them. They're wild animals and can be unpredictable.
