The experience

The route starts with pickup from your hotel around 14:30 and heads south to Uluwatu Temple, one of Bali's oldest and most visited sacred sites. The temple sits on a cliff face high above the Indian Ocean, with a surfing break directly below and views across open water. Monkeys live on the temple grounds, and the structure itself dates back centuries, kept and maintained by a community that lives there. You'll have time to walk the temple before the performance begins.

At 18:00, the kecak fire dance starts in the temple's amphitheater, with the ocean and sunset as the backdrop. The performance tells the story of the Ramayana, a major Hindu epic, using rhythmic chanting, fire and choreography: no instruments, just voices and movement. The dance runs while daylight fades, so the fire becomes more visible as the sun drops. After the performance ends, the tour moves directly to Jimbaran Beach, about 20 minutes away by car.

Jimbaran is known for its seafood grills set up along the sand, where you can order fresh fish, squid and prawns cooked to order and eat at a table facing the water. The beach is busy in the evening, especially during tourist season. Dinner here is optional. You can choose to add it at checkout or skip it and return to your hotel. The return drive leaves Jimbaran around 21:00, getting you back to your hotel by roughly 21:30 depending on traffic and location. An English-speaking driver handles the full route, and the tour includes bottled water, all entrance fees, parking and tolls.

Is this one for you?The tour runs a fixed schedule (pickup at 14:30, temple at 17:00, dance at 18:00, dinner at Jimbaran by 19:30), so the timing is set and you move through each stop in sequence. If you prefer to linger at the temple or take your time over dinner, this structured half-day won't give you that flexibility, but it fits all three major stops into a single evening without gaps or waiting.

Top questions

Can children come?

Yes. Ticket types: Youth (13 to 17 years); Child (6 to 12 years): free; Infant (1 to 5 years): free.

What is the kecak fire dance and why is it performed at Uluwatu?

The kecak is a traditional Balinese performance that tells stories from the Ramayana, an ancient Hindu epic. Performers use synchronized chanting and rhythmic movement rather than instruments, and fire is part of the choreography. Uluwatu Temple hosts nightly performances because the clifftop setting and ocean views create a dramatic backdrop, especially at sunset when the fire becomes visible against the darkening sky.

How much time do I spend at Uluwatu Temple before the dance starts?

You arrive at Uluwatu around 17:00 and the kecak performance begins at 18:00, giving you roughly an hour to walk the temple grounds, see the monkeys and take in the views before the show. The exact time depends on traffic from your hotel and whether you choose the optional coffee plantation stop.

Is dinner at Jimbaran Beach included, and can I choose what to eat?

Dinner is optional and added at checkout if you want it. Jimbaran Beach has multiple seafood grills along the shore where you order and pay directly for your meal: fresh grilled fish, squid and prawns are the standard offerings. You eat at a table on the sand facing the water.

What if I'm staying in Ubud? Does the tour still work?

If your hotel is in Ubud, the tour starts around 14:30 (two hours earlier than the standard 14:30 pickup from southern Bali hotels) and there is an additional charge of USD 25 to cover the longer drive. The rest of the itinerary stays the same.

What's included in the tour price, and what do I need to bring?

The tour includes hotel pickup and return, the driver, entrance to Uluwatu Temple, bottled water, parking and tolls. Bring sunscreen, a hat and comfortable walking shoes for the temple. The grounds have uneven surfaces and steps. Casual clothes work for dinner at Jimbaran, though you may want a light layer as the beach can be breezy in the evening.
