Five stops in one day: from bat temple to palace gardens in East Bali

You're picked up from your hotel and driven east through changing landscape to five distinct stops: a working market, a bat-filled temple, the famous Lempuyang gates with Mount Agung views, a traditional Bali Aga village where you can meet locals and see weaving, and finally Tirta Gangga's water gardens where you can walk the pools and stone carvings. Private guide, all entry fees, and air-conditioned transport are included; you return to Ubud by evening.

10h–12h

Step-by-step itinerary

  • Pick up from hotel
  • Visit Lebih Market
  • Pass by Goa Lawah temple
  • Explore Lempuyang Temple and Gates of Heaven
  • Visit Tenganan Village and see traditional weaving
  • Relax at Tirta Gangga Water Palace

The Experience

Most people arrive in Ubud wanting to see the rice terraces and monkey forests—the postcard stuff. This tour goes the other way. You leave the tourist loop early, heading east toward Mount Agung, and by mid-morning you're standing at Lempuyang Heaven Gate with the mountain rising behind you and almost nobody else around. The drive takes time, but that's the point: the road itself shows you how Bali changes once you leave the main circuit.

The day starts with a stop at Lebih Market, where locals buy fish and vegetables before the heat gets too high. It's not a tourist market—you're watching how people actually shop, not performing the role of visitor. From there the route swings toward Goa Lawah, a temple built into a cave where thousands of bats live in the darkness overhead. The spiritual weight of the place is real; your guide explains why the bats matter to the people who worship there, and it stops feeling like a photo opportunity. Then comes Lempuyang itself, the gates everyone wants, but you've already been moving for hours so the crowds thin out by the time you arrive. The views of Mount Agung are clearest in the morning light anyway.

After Lempuyang you drop into Tenganan, one of Bali's oldest villages, where the Bali Aga people have lived for centuries with their own customs and weaving traditions. Walking through the village with a private guide means you can actually talk to people instead of rushing past them. The final stop is Tirta Gangga Water Palace, where you can walk the stone gardens, sit by the pools, and let the day settle. It's not a sprint—there's time to breathe between stops, and the air-conditioned vehicle means you're not exhausted by the time you get there.

The whole thing runs as a full day, which sounds long until you realize how much ground you cover and how spread out the stops are. Hotel pickup means no negotiating transport or timing yourself. Entrance fees are included, so you're not stopping at each gate to figure out what things cost. By the time you're back in Ubud in the evening, you've seen temples, villages, and gardens that most day-trippers never reach.
