The drive from Ubud takes two and a half hours to reach the eastern slope of Mount Lempuyang, where Pura Penataran Agung sits at 1,175 meters above sea level. This is Bali's highest temple, and the Gate of Heaven—two ornate stone pillars framing Mount Agung and the valley below—is why most people make the trip. The line for photos can get long, especially midday, so timing matters.
