You're picked up before dawn, ferried to Nusa Penida, and guided through three snorkeling reefs where you'll see manta rays and coral gardens. After lunch, you hike down a 400-meter cliff to Kelingking Beach, a secluded strip of white sand framed by a T-Rex-shaped headland. Private transport, equipment and meals are included; the full day runs about 10 hours door to door.
Your hotel pickup happens at 6:30am, and by 7:15 you're at Sanur port watching the fast boat fill up. The crossing to Nusa Penida takes 40 minutes — long enough to feel the shift from the mainland bustle to something quieter. A driver meets you at the island port with a sign bearing your name, and from there the day splits into two halves: water and land.
The snorkeling part runs about two hours at Crystal Bay, where you'll move between three spots — Mantas Point, Crystal Bay itself, and Gamat Point. The reef work is straightforward: mask on, fins on, follow the guide. You'll see parrotfish, angelfish, and if the current cooperates, manta rays gliding underneath. The water clarity depends on the season and the tide, but the equipment is provided and the guide knows which spot will be best that morning. After you climb back into the boat, lunch arrives — nothing fancy, but solid and hot.
Kelingking Beach is where the day gets physical. The beach sits below a limestone headland that locals say looks like a T-Rex head when you see it from above, and yeah, once someone points it out you can't unsee it. Getting down there means a 400-meter hike down a steep, rocky cliff path — not technical climbing, but it's uneven and loose in spots, so it takes focus. The beach itself is narrow, white sand hemmed in by those green-covered cliffs and the open Indian Ocean. Most people spend 30 to 45 minutes here before the climb back up, which is slower than the descent. By the time you're back at the top, your legs know you've done something.
The return boat leaves Nusa Penida in the late afternoon, and you're back in your Ubud hotel by early evening. Private transport, snorkeling gear, lunch and bottled water are all included — you don't arrange the boat tickets or figure out the timing yourself. The day is long and moves fast, so wear reef shoes or old sneakers you don't mind getting wet, bring sunscreen that you reapply after the water, and know that the Kelingking hike is optional but worth doing if your knees are okay with steep descents.
