The experience
The tour opens in Ubud, where you start at 8:30 am with a visit to Celuk Village to watch traditional jewelry-making and wood carving, then move through the Sacred Monkey Forest among Hindu temples before reaching the layered rice terraces of the Jatiluwih valley. From there you trek 10 minutes through jungle to Ulu Petanu waterfall, a hidden cascade that drops into a turquoise pool: less crowded than the tourist waterfalls, and your guide explains its spiritual meaning to the villages nearby. The day ends at Tirta Empul Temple, where you can optionally join a purification ritual in the sacred spring pools.
Day two starts at 6:30 am with a hotel pickup and a 45-minute fast boat ride from Sanur Beach to Nusa Penida. The island itinerary covers Broken Beach (Pasih Uug), a clifftop arch with a hole carved through it; Angels Billabong, a natural infinity pool set into the rocks where you can swim if the tide allows; Kelingking Beach, where a steep trek down volcanic rock leads to a private stretch of sand; and Crystal Bay, a white-sand cove for swimming and snorkeling. Lunch is included, and the boat returns you to Sanur by mid-afternoon.
The final day takes you north to Ulun Danu Beratan Temple on the shore of Beratan Lake, formed by a volcanic eruption 30,000 years ago. You'll also visit Banyumala Waterfall, reached by a short hike through lush forest, and stop at the Handara Gate, a traditional Hindu entrance arch that photographs well. The route passes through the Jatiluwih rice terraces, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where you learn how Balinese farmers built the communal water system that shapes the landscape.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24h before the start.
What's included in the 3-day Bali tour price?
All entrance fees to temples and attractions, hotel pickup and drop-off, round-trip fast boat tickets to Nusa Penida, lunch on the island day, an English-speaking driver, mineral water, parking, and air-conditioned transport throughout are included. Meals on days one and three are not included.
How early does the tour start each day?
Day one (Ubud) picks up at 8:30 am. Day two (Nusa Penida) starts at 6:30 am to catch the fast boat from Sanur. Day three (North Bali temples) timing depends on your hotel location and the operator's schedule for that departure.
Can I swim at the Nusa Penida beaches?
Kelingking Beach and Crystal Bay are both swimmable, though Kelingking requires a steep trek down and is best visited at low tide. Angels Billabong is a natural pool where swimming is possible depending on tide conditions. Broken Beach is a viewing spot from the clifftop, not a swimming beach.
What is Tirta Empul Temple and what happens there?
Tirta Empul is a sacred spring temple known for its purification pools. You can walk through the temple complex and optionally participate in a cleansing ritual in the spring water if you bring proper attire. It's not mandatory.
How long is the boat ride to Nusa Penida?
The fast boat from Sanur Beach takes about 45 minutes to reach Nusa Penida Island. The return boat departs mid-afternoon, timed to get you back to Sanur by around 3 or 4 pm.
What are the rice terraces like and why are they UNESCO-listed?
The Jatiluwih rice terraces are contoured into the hillsides across North Bali, creating a layered landscape you drive through on day three. They're a UNESCO World Heritage site because Balinese farmers built an intricate communal water system centuries ago that still irrigates the paddies and shapes the entire region.
