The experience

The day starts at Concord Falls, a ten-minute drive from the main road into Grenada's rainforest. A short, well-maintained path leads down to the base of the waterfall, where you can swim in the natural pool. Local souvenir shops line the area, and you'll likely spot monkeys in the trees. From there the guide takes you to the Nutmeg Museum in St. Mark's, where the tour covers Grenada's role in the global spice trade and the three types of nutmeg grown on the island: each with distinct characteristics and uses.

At Jouvay Chocolate Factory, you walk through the cocoa plantation, then move to the processing station for a detailed demonstration of how raw cocoa becomes chocolate. Once the process is finished, you taste a variety of the final product and have the chance to buy. The last two stops are historical: Sauteurs and Leaper's Hill in St. Patrick's, where the guide explains the Carib resistance to French invasion and the legend of the cliff leap that gave the site its name. The area offers panoramic views across the island.

Is this one for you?The guide speaks English throughout, so the commentary is accessible to anyone comfortable following in that language. The five-hour length fits a half-day schedule if your hotel pickup is close to the starting point, though travel time between sites means you'll spend roughly as much time in the vehicle as at the attractions themselves.

How much walking and swimming is involved in this Grenada tour?

Concord Falls requires a short hike down a well-maintained path to reach the waterfall and natural pool where you can swim. The rest of the tour involves walking through the chocolate plantation and around the Nutmeg Museum and Leaper's Hill. The operator notes that travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness.

Does the tour include lunch or drinks beyond water?

Bottled water is included. Lunch and alcoholic beverages are not covered, so plan to eat before or after the tour or bring your own food.

What is Leaper's Hill and why is it called that?

Leaper's Hill, also known as Carib's Leap, is a cliff-side site in St. Patrick's where indigenous Carib people resisted French invasion. According to tradition, rather than surrender, the Caribs leapt from the cliff face, an act of defiance that gave the location its name and made it a landmark in Grenada's history.
