Step-by-step itinerary

Half-day Grenada island tour

  • Visit Fort Frederick and Fort Matthew
  • Explore Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association
  • Tour Tri-Island Chocolate Factory
  • Discover Grand Etang National Park and Lake
  • Relax at Annandale Falls

The experience

The tour starts at Grand Etang National Park, where the crater lake sits at the heart of the volcano that formed the island. The Mona Monkeys here, descendants of animals brought during the African slave trade, are tamed to humans and move freely around visitors. From the lake, you drive down to Annandale Falls, a 30-foot cascade that flows into a natural rock pool fed by tropical forest. The walk to the falls is easy, and the site has local craft vendors and sometimes live drumming or cliff divers.

The tour also stops at the Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association processing station, where you see how nutmeg is harvested, dried, sorted and prepared for export: the trade that earned Grenada its name as the Spice Isle. At Tri-Island Chocolate Factory in St. George's, a tree-to-bar maker inside the Spice Basket cultural complex, you watch cocoa turn into artisanal chocolate. If you want to make your own bar, that costs extra, but you pick it up on the way back. The route also passes Fort Frederick and Fort Matthew on Richmond Hill, two historic forts with panoramic views of the capital and Grand Anse Beach.

Your guide is Izzy or another certified guide who knows the island and speaks English. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and pickup happens at your hotel, cruise port, or villa. The tour is designed to move at your pace without feeling rushed, making it workable for families, couples, solo travelers, and cruise passengers with limited time on the island.

Top questions

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What is Grand Etang Lake and why is it on this tour?

Grand Etang is the crater lake at the heart of Grenada, formed by the volcano that created the island millions of years ago. It sits in a national park and forest reserve where Mona Monkeys roam freely and are accustomed to visitors, making it a central stop on the tour.

Can I swim at Annandale Falls?

Yes. Annandale Falls flows into a natural rock pool surrounded by ferns, wildflowers and hanging vines. The site is well-maintained with easy walking paths, and swimming in the pool is part of the stop.

What does the nutmeg processing station show?

The Grenada Co-operative Nutmeg Association station lets you see how nutmeg is harvested from the trees, then dried, sorted and prepared for export: the centuries-old trade that powers the island's economy and earned it the name Spice Isle.

Is the chocolate factory tour included, or do I pay extra?

The visit to Tri-Island Chocolate Factory is included in the tour price. You can watch the tree-to-bar process for free. Making your own chocolate bar costs extra, but the factory holds it so you can pick it up on the way back from the tour.

What time does the tour start and how long does it take?

The tour runs 4 to 5 hours and offers morning or afternoon departures. Your guide will confirm the exact time when you book, and pickup happens at your hotel, cruise port, or villa.

Are meals and drinks included?

Entrance fees and transport are included. If you eat or drink at any of the attractions (the park, the falls, the processing station or the factory), that is your own cost and not part of the tour price.
