The experience
Your guide is waiting at the Valparaíso pier with a sign bearing your name. From there, the day moves through the city's neighborhoods: walking up and down the charming streets where murals cover the walls, riding the El Peral funicular (the traditional cable car that locals still use), and stopping at Plaza Sotomayor, the main square where the city's architecture and harbor views meet. You'll visit La Sebastiana, the house where Nobel Prize–winning poet Pablo Neruda lived and worked, a place he shaped into his personal legacy.
The route then heads to Viña del Mar, known as the Garden City. Quinta Vergara Park (once the glamorous estate of the wealthy Vergara family and now a botanical garden) gives you time to walk the grounds and photograph the Easter Island monument that stands there. From the coast, you can see why the city draws visitors: the combination of aristocratic heritage and seaside setting.
On the return to Santiago, you stop at Veramonte winery in Casablanca Valley for a guided tasting of Chilean wines. The day ends with drop-off at Santiago Airport or your hotel, depending on which you choose at checkout. The entire journey takes nine hours from pier to final destination.

Is this one for you?At nine hours, this tour fills most of a port day but leaves room for an early breakfast or a late dinner ashore. The private vehicle and guide mean you move at your own pace through each stop rather than waiting for a group to gather, and you can ask the guide about the neighborhoods and history as you walk.
