The experience

Your guide meets you at the cruise port and loads your luggage into the vehicle, so you travel without it weighing you down. The morning focuses on Valparaíso's historic quarter: you walk through Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, neighborhoods built on steep hillsides with narrow streets, colorful houses, street art, and views down to the port. You ride one of the city's traditional funiculars (mechanical hillside elevators that have carried residents up and down for generations), and stop at Plaza Sotomayor to see the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique and the Chilean Navy headquarters. The guide shows you the promenades that ring the hills, each one a vantage point over the city and the Pacific.

From Valparaíso, the route continues to Viña del Mar, where you photograph the Flower Clock, a landmark garden near the coast, and see Castillo Wulff, a historic stone mansion overlooking the ocean. You have free time here for lunch at a restaurant of your choice. Then the tour heads inland toward Santiago, stopping in the Casablanca Valley, one of Chile's main wine regions. A wine tasting is included: you sample a selection of Chilean wines and learn about the valley's winemaking. Your luggage stays in the vehicle throughout. The day ends with drop-off at your Santiago hotel or at the airport, depending on your flight time.

The group stays small, maximum 4 travelers, so the pace is flexible and the guide can adjust stops based on what interests you. The vehicle is air-conditioned, and the driver is professional. If you're traveling with infants or small children, specialized seats and prams are available.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English and Spanish.

Can I book this tour if my cruise arrives at San Antonio instead of Valparaíso?

Yes. The tour operates from both Valparaíso and San Antonio cruise terminals, and your guide will meet you at whichever port your ship uses. Luggage is transported in the vehicle either way.

What are Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción like to walk through?

Both are historic neighborhoods built on steep hills with narrow, winding streets lined with colorful houses, many painted in bright blues, yellows, and pinks. You'll see street art, old architecture, and several viewpoints overlooking Valparaíso's harbor and the surrounding hills. The walking is moderate, with some uphill sections, but the guide sets the pace.

Is the funicular ride included, or do I pay extra?

The funicular ride is included. Depending on operating conditions that day, you'll ride either El Peral or Reina Victoria, both historic elevators that connect Valparaíso's lower districts to the hilltop neighborhoods.

What kind of wines will I taste in Casablanca Valley?

The wine tasting includes a selection of Chilean wines from the region. Your guide will explain the valley's winemaking traditions and the wines you're sampling, but the specific varieties depend on the winery's current offerings.

Do I need to arrange my own lunch, or is it provided?

Lunch is at your own expense. You have free time in Viña del Mar to eat at a restaurant of your choice. Your guide can suggest local options based on what you're in the mood for before you stop.

What happens to my luggage during the tour?

Your luggage stays in the air-conditioned vehicle throughout the entire day. The driver transports it safely so you can walk and explore without carrying bags. It travels with you to your final drop-off in Santiago.
