The experience
The tour starts at the Cu Chi Tunnels northwest of Saigon, where your guide walks you through the historic role these passages played in the Vietnam War. You'll watch a short documentary that explains how the network withstood bombing campaigns, then descend into the tunnels themselves to see trap doors, storage rooms, and the kitchens where fighters prepared meals. The tunnels stretch across some 125 miles of subterranean passages. You explore a section of this system to understand its layout and engineering. Afterward, you try local wartime foods (rice tapioca and hot tea) that sustained people underground.
The afternoon shifts to central Saigon's colonial landmarks. You visit the Saigon Central Post Office, designed by Alfred Foulhoux and built between 1877 and 1883, which stands next to Notre Dame Cathedral and reflects the grandeur of French Indochina. The War Remnants Museum displays American military equipment from the conflict (a helicopter with rocket launchers, a tank, a fighter plane, and a conventional bomb weighing 6,800 kilograms) alongside graphic photographs documenting the war between 1945 and 1975. You also see the Reunification Palace, where a North Vietnamese tank crashed through the main gate in 1975 to end the war. Two of those original tanks remain in the palace grounds.
The tour includes a stop at Ben Thanh Market for shopping before returning you to Phu My Port in time for your ship. Your guide speaks English throughout, and the operator provides bottled water, tissues, lunch, and all entry fees. The drive to Cu Chi takes you through scenic countryside toward the Cambodian border, and the full experience runs seven to eleven hours depending on traffic and how long you spend at each site.

Is this one for you? This is a private guided tour, so you move as a group with one guide rather than exploring on your own or joining strangers. Choose it if you want someone who knows the tunnel history and the war's context to walk you through both the underground sections and Saigon's colonial sites, and if you need the logistics (transport, lunch, entry fees) arranged so you can focus on the experience and still make your ship's departure.
