You’ll launch straight into Dubai’s blue waters with an instructor guiding you past Burj Al Arab and Atlantis on your own jet ski (good for two people). Expect salty air, laughter during photo stops, and quiet moments drifting near the skyline before heading back ashore — it’s more exhilarating than you think.
I didn’t even have time to overthink it — one minute we were standing on the dock at Popeye Jetski, the next I was gripping the handlebars and squinting at the glare off the water. Our instructor, Faisal, grinned as he handed me a life jacket and said something about “just relax, you’ll get used to it.” Maybe he could tell I was nervous. The engine’s hum drowned out most thoughts anyway. We zipped out into open blue, salt spray hitting my lips — not unpleasant, actually kind of woke me up.
The first big stop was right in front of Burj Al Arab. It looked unreal from that low on the water — like some giant sail just floating there. Faisal waved us closer for photos (he took them for us, thank god). There was this weird hush out there, even with all of Dubai behind us; I could hear gulls and my own heartbeat. My friend tried to pose cool but almost dropped her sunglasses in the lagoon. She laughed so hard she snorted — I still tease her about that.
We skirted around Palm Jumeirah next, Atlantis rising up pink and massive in the haze. The skyline sort of shimmered behind it all, glassy and sharp against the sky. Faisal pointed out The World Islands in the distance — you can only see them properly by sea, which felt special somehow. He told us stories about when he first learned to ride here as a kid (I half believed him). At some point I realized my hands had stopped shaking and I was just… enjoying it? That surprised me.
By the time we slowed near Dubai Marina for another break, my hair was a mess and my cheeks hurt from smiling. We drifted a bit while Faisal handed out bottled water and let us just float there for a second — not much talking, just sun on our backs and city all around. It’s funny how fast an hour goes when you’re out of your comfort zone but also kind of loving it.
