The experience

You arrive at POPEYE JETSKI, stow your belongings in a locker, and change in the cabin. The instructor briefs you on the jet ski (how to hold on, where the throttle is, what to expect from the acceleration), then you both climb on. The machine takes two people, and the instructor sits behind you, guiding the route while you feel the power of the throttle. You're not a passenger watching the city pass. You're driving it.

The route crosses Palm Jumeirah first, where you pull up to the lagoon in front of Atlantis and pause for photos. The building rises enormous and close enough to frame properly. Then you head for Burj Al Arab, the seven-star hotel that anchors every Dubai postcard, and cut the engine at its foot for another break. From there you run the Dubai Marina skyline, seeing the towers from the water instead of from land, and pass The World Island: a man-made archipelago visible only from the sea. The whole sequence takes an hour. You're moving the whole time except for the two photo stops, so the ride is the point, not the sightseeing.

Safety gear is included: a jacket, masks or glasses, and a waterproof pouch if you want to bring a phone. Bottled water and a shower are available when you're done. The instructor speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of two other languages, so the briefing and the route explanation happen in whatever works for you.
