You’ll ride a jet ski along Dubai’s coast with a local guide, stopping for photos by Bluewaters Island, Atlantis on Palm Jumeirah, and Burj Al Arab. Feel the sun and sea spray as you take in iconic views from the water—and finish with memories that stick long after your skin dries off.
I didn’t expect the water to feel so warm when we set off from Jumeirah Beach. There was this salty breeze, kind of sticky, and the sound of jet skis buzzing all around us. Our guide—he just went by “Sam”—handed me a safety jacket and grinned like he knew I’d be nervous. He showed us how to work the throttle (I almost forgot which button was which), then we were off, bouncing over little waves with the city sort of shimmering behind us. You could smell sunscreen in the air and maybe something sweet from a food cart back on shore.
The first stop was near Bluewaters Island—the Ain Dubai wheel looked even bigger from out on the water. Sam pointed at it and told us how it lights up at night for festivals; I tried to imagine what that would look like but mostly I was just trying not to drop my phone while taking pictures. We cruised along Palm Jumeirah next, getting close enough to see Atlantis’ pink arches and all those crazy shapes in the skyline. The sea spray tasted a bit briny (I got some in my mouth after laughing too hard when my friend nearly tipped us). At one point we paused and you could hear nothing but water lapping against the hulls—kind of peaceful for a second.
Last stretch took us toward Burj Al Arab, that sail-shaped hotel everyone’s seen in photos but it’s different when you’re right there with nothing between you and it except open sea. Sam offered to snap our picture—he had this trick where he’d get just the right angle with the skyline behind. On the way back I tried going full speed for maybe ten seconds before chickening out (no regrets). We finished up sunburned and grinning, salt crusting our arms, joking about who looked most ridiculous in their goggles. I still think about that view of Dubai from out there—makes all those skyscrapers seem almost unreal, you know?
