The Experience

Six to seven hours gives you time to reach Pig Island—a small island south of Koh Samui where semi-wild pigs roam the beach—and Koh Tan, the better coral reef site. The speedboat picks you up from your hotel in Lamai, Chaweng, Bangpor, Maenam, Bophut, Cheongmon or Bangrak and carries you out to both islands. You'll spend time on Pig Island's white sand beach where you can feed the pigs, take pictures and walk around, then move to Koh Tan for the main snorkeling stretch. The pigs originally swam from Koh Tan to Pig Island and now live there semi-wild, so you're seeing them in their actual habitat, not a pen.

At Koh Tan you snorkel the coral reef with the mask and life jacket provided. The reef holds an abundance of marine life, and the water is clear enough to see it. A live guide speaks English throughout the day and directs the group between sites. Lunch is a Thai set menu served on the boat, and fresh fruit and water come with it. The tour runs on a shared speedboat with other travelers—the minimum group size is 10 people, so small groups don't depart.

Hotel transfer is included from the central Koh Samui areas; if you're staying in Nathon, Taling Ngam, Pagka, Lipanoi or Lipayai, an extra transfer charge of 700 baht per person each way applies. Accident insurance is built in. Children from age 1 are welcome, though the tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, those with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health, high blood pressure, heart disease or bone diseases. The activity is also not suitable for cruise ship arrivals. Park admission of 50 baht per person is paid on arrival and is not included in the tour price.
