The Experience
Angthong National Marine Park is Thailand's second national park, a scatter of 42 limestone islands rising from the Gulf. The day starts with hotel pickup from Koh Samui—from Lamai, Chaweng, Bangpor, Maenam, Bophut or other zones—and a light breakfast at the office before the speedboat departs Bangrak pier. You get snorkeling equipment and a life jacket on arrival; the park itself sits about an hour offshore.
Wua Ta Lap Island is the first stop. You snorkel in the clear water around the island, then climb the adventure walk to the viewpoint at the top, where the panorama opens to all 42 islands in the park at once. The walk is short but steep enough to earn the view. After that comes a full Thai buffet lunch served on the island itself, eaten with the water and limestone cliffs as the backdrop.
The afternoon splits between kayaking and Talay Nai, the lagoon with emerald-green water. You paddle around the islands in a sea kayak—the route takes you through coves and between the rock formations—or you can relax on the beach at Wua Ta Lap instead. Talay Nai is the final swim stop: the water is shallow and the color is the draw. You snorkel there, sunbathe, or wade depending on what appeals. The speedboat returns to Bangrak pier in the late afternoon, and the hotel drop-off completes the day.
