Snorkeling Koh Samui: Pig Island, Koh Tan & Kayaking
Swim past intact coral, then paddle to an island with no roads or electricity
A snorkeling and kayaking tour from Koh Samui visits three islands—Koh Tan for its coral reef, Koh Mudsum (Pig Island) for its free-roaming woolly pigs and white sand beach, and Koh Tan again—with hotel pickup, snorkeling equipment, kayak access, a traditional Thai lunch on the beach and return transport included. The tour runs 4 to 5 hours and departs around 8:30 a.m. from your accommodation.
The Experience
The day starts with pickup from your hotel in an air-conditioned minibus around 8:30 a.m., collecting other guests before heading to Thong Krut boat harbor on Koh Samui's south coast. Once everyone is aboard, the boat heads to Koh Tan, a small fishing village island where the underwater world centers on a still-intact coral reef. You get snorkeling equipment free of charge and explore the sea creatures on calm, clear water—the first real stop of the day.
After Koh Tan comes the crossing to Koh Mudsum, the island locals call Pig Island. There's no civilization here, no running water or electricity, and the beach holds a handful of woolly pigs that wander the white sand like something out of the Caribbean. You have time to kayak, swim or simply sit on the beach. A traditional Thai lunch arrives on the sand itself, eaten with a view of the sea and the pigs moving freely nearby—the meal is the centerpiece of the afternoon.
Around 2:30 p.m. the boat returns to Koh Samui, a crossing of about 30 minutes where turtles and other sea creatures are often spotted. You're back at Thong Krut pier by 3:00 p.m., then the minibus drops you at your hotel in the same sequence it picked you up. The whole day—pickup, islands, snorkeling, kayaking, lunch and return—stays inside the 4 to 5 hour window.

What's the snorkeling like at Koh Tan?
Koh Tan's coral reef is still intact, and the calm, clear water lets you see a diverse range of sea creatures. Snorkeling equipment is provided, so you enter the water ready to explore without arranging or renting gear separately.
Can I actually see the pigs on Koh Mudsum?
Yes. Woolly pigs roam free on the white sand beach of Koh Mudsum, and you have enough time there to watch them, swim, kayak or relax. Seeing them is part of why the island is called Pig Island.
Is lunch included, and where do we eat?
Lunch is included—a traditional Thai meal served on the white sandy beach of Koh Mudsum, so you eat with a sea view and the pigs moving around the sand nearby.
What time does the tour start and end?
Hotel pickup happens around 8:30 a.m. The boat returns to Thong Krut pier by 3:00 p.m., and you're dropped at your hotel shortly after. The full tour runs 4 to 5 hours.
Do I need my own snorkeling gear?
No. Snorkeling equipment is provided free of charge, so you arrive with nothing and the tour supplies what you need to explore the reef at Koh Tan.
Is this tour available for cruise ship passengers?
This tour is customized only for hotel guests staying on Koh Samui. Cruise ship passengers need to contact the operator directly to arrange participation.
