The experience

The speedboat picks you up from your hotel in one of six neighborhoods on Koh Samui and heads out to Koh Madsum, where pigs walk the powdery beach like they own it. You wade ashore, spend time with them, and take photos on the sand before paddling a kayak along the island's quiet coastline. The kayak leg is short and sheltered, letting you soak in the sea breeze without fighting current or chop.

Koh Tan is where the snorkeling happens. The coral gardens sit in shallow water close to shore, so you can see the reefs and the fish without needing deep-water experience. Colorful marine life moves through the coral. The visibility is clear enough that beginners and experienced snorkelers both get something out of it. You spend enough time in the water to explore, then head back to the beach.
