The experience
The boat leaves Koh Samui in the morning and heads straight to Koh Wao, where you enter the water with mask and snorkel to explore the coral reefs. The bay is sheltered and the water clear enough to see the reef structure and the fish moving through it: parrotfish, grouper, and smaller species in numbers that make the reef feel alive. You stay in the water as long as you want during the stop, and the guide stays with the group.
From there the boat moves to Koh Mae Ko, where you leave the water and hike uphill to a viewpoint overlooking the Emerald Lagoon. The lagoon sits inside the island and is fed by seawater flowing through caves beneath the rock. You can see it from above but can't enter it. The hike is short and the view is the reason the stop exists. It's the kind of thing you'd miss if you only snorkeled. After the viewpoint you return to the boat.
The final stop is Koh Phaluai, where the group eats a Thai buffet lunch on the beach. You can swim in the water here, rest in the shade, or walk the sand before the boat heads back to Koh Samui. The whole outing runs five to seven hours from pickup at your hotel to drop-off, and the group stays under 16 people.
