The experience
The boat leaves from Thongkrut pier and heads first to Koh Mudsum, where pigs live freely on the sand. You swim in shallow, clear water, sunbathe on the natural beach or simply watch the animals move along the shore. The stop is short enough that families with children find it manageable, and the water stays calm in the protected bay.
From there, the boat moves to Koh Tan, an undeveloped island on Koh Samui's southwest coast where the real snorkeling happens. The coral reef runs close to shore, and the water holds colorful fish in numbers you can count. Your guide stays with you in the water and points out the reef structure and the species moving through it. Snorkel equipment, life jacket and drinking water are all provided. You bring only a towel and sunscreen.
The whole outing runs about four hours from pickup to return. It suits travelers who want to snorkel without a long boat journey, and the mix of two stops (one for swimming and watching wildlife, one for reef exploration) means the day does not feel repetitive. You can choose to add lunch and hotel transfer at checkout, or book the snorkeling alone and arrange your own way back.
