The experience

Seongsan Ilchulbong anchors the first day. A 180-meter crater that holds three UNESCO natural science designations at once, making it the only place on earth to have won all three. From the observatory you see Udo Island, the haenyeo performance hall, and the Umutgae Coast. Manjanggul Cave, formed between 100,000 and 300,000 years ago, is one of the world's largest lava tubes at 18 meters wide and 23 meters high. You walk the main passage that was once connected to nearby caves before ceiling collapses separated them. Hamdeok Beach sits between these two stops, known for its emerald-colored water and the Seoubong Peak that rises right next to the shore.

Day two moves to the west and south, starting with Jeongbang Waterfall: the only waterfall in Korea that falls directly into the sea, dropping 23 meters from Hallasan Mountain through downtown Seogwipo before reaching the ocean. A five-minute walk down pine-tree stairs brings you to the base. Jusangjeolli Cliff shows the aftermath of volcanic eruption: hexagonal stone columns formed when hot lava met cold seawater and cracked into these geometric pillars. Oedolgae, a 20-meter stone pillar in the sea, stands alone as a result of wave erosion. The route also includes Seopjikoji, a coastal stretch famous for drama filming, where you can see the crater from a volcanic eruption and walk along clear water and red volcanic rock clusters.

The vehicle is air-conditioned and includes WiFi. Your driver handles parking and fuel. A wife rides along on board. If you need a child seat, it can be reserved for 30,000 won. The tour operates with a live guide in English or Japanese, and hotel pickup is included in the booking.

Manjanggul Cave is a lava tube with a main passage 18 meters wide and 23 meters high: one of the world's largest. You explore about 1 kilometer of the publicly open section, walking through a passage that was formed hundreds of thousands of years ago and has well-preserved internal shapes and topography, rare among lava tubes worldwide.

Can I see Seongsan Ilchulbong from other stops on the tour?

Yes. Seopjikoji, on the second day's route, is famous for its beautiful coastal scenery where you can see Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak in the distance. The peak is also visible from the observatory at Seongsan Ilchulbong itself, where you can see Udo Island, the haenyeo performance hall, and the Umutgae Coast.
