The experience

The tour starts at Miraflores locks, where you watch the short film and explore the museum before heading to the observation decks overlooking the canal itself. From there, the route follows the Amador Causeway: a 6km road built from soil excavated during the canal's construction that extends into the Pacific at the point where the waterway meets the ocean. This is where container ships enter and exit the canal, and the causeway offers the best vantage points to photograph them. Frank Gehry's museum sits here too, and the road is popular with walkers and cyclists for the views alone.

The second half takes you into Casco Viejo, Panama's old town and a UNESCO heritage site, where your guide walks you through the colonial streets and explains the district's history. The tour ends at the Fish Market, a working market with food stalls and local energy, before returning to your hotel.
