Panama Canal & Casco Viejo Private Tour: 4–5 hours
Two engineering eras in one afternoon: the locks that reshaped shipping, then the city that predates them by centuries.
A private guided tour of Panama City covering the Miraflores Locks visitor center, modern downtown, and a walking tour of Casco Viejo's colonial plazas and cathedral, finishing with views of the skyline from the Amador Causeway. The tour runs four to five hours with private transportation, bottled water, canal entry and an air-conditioned vehicle included. A live guide speaks English or Spanish, and children from age one are welcome.

The Experience
The day starts at the Miraflores Locks visitor center, where you watch vessels pass through the canal in real time—the engineering feat that cut 8,000 miles off the shipping route between oceans. The IMAX theater there screens a 3D film on how the locks work. From there, the drive takes you along Balboa Avenue through modern Panama City, the skyline that earned it the nickname "Manhattan of Central America," before arriving in Casco Viejo for the walking portion of the tour.
In Casco Viejo, you move through the colonial plazas on foot: the Metropolitan Cathedral, with its original beauty and history intact; Plaza de Francia, where the Ministry of Culture building, French Embassy, and an obelisk honoring French effort frame the square; and smaller plazas dedicated to Thomas Herrera and Simón Bolívar, each tree-shaded and built around sculptures. The guide walks you through the neighborhood's layout and the stories behind its buildings.
The tour ends at the Amador Causeway, a 6-kilometer road built from rock excavated during the canal's construction between 1904 and 1914. It connects the mainland to three islands—Naos, Perico, and Flamenco—and from there you get a full view of the Panama City skyline. On clear days, you can also see the Bridge of the Americas welcoming ships into the canal. Private transportation and a guide in English or Spanish are included throughout; the vehicle is air-conditioned and bottled water is provided.
