The experience

Your hotel pickup gets you to the Panama Canal Visitor Center, where you stand at the Miraflores Locks and watch ships pass through one of the world's most critical waterways. The center has viewing platforms and an IMAX 3D film on the Canal's history and engineering (the $17.22 entry fee is separate). From there, your guide takes you into Casco Viejo for a 1-hour walk through the historic district: 17th-century churches, plazas, and government buildings that form the colonial core of Panama City.

The tour ends at the Amador Causeway, a set of man-made islands connected by a long causeway on the Pacific side of the city.
