The experience
The tour starts at the Miraflores Visitor Center, where the Panama Canal's engineering becomes visible in real time. You watch container ships and tankers move through the historic locks. The mechanism that lets vessels cross between the Atlantic and Pacific without sailing around Cape Horn. A short film explains how the canal operates and why it matters to global shipping. From there, the group heads to the Amador Causeway, a coastal strip with unobstructed views of the Panama City skyline and the Bridge of the Americas spanning the canal entrance. You have time to walk, visit shops, or eat at restaurants along the avenue.
The final stop is Casco Viejo, the old town district on the peninsula. Cobblestone streets connect colonial buildings, plazas and churches: Independence Square and the Metropolitan Cathedral are the landmarks most visitors seek out. The architecture is Spanish-era, the streets are narrow, and the neighborhood is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your guide provides context on Panama's history and the stories these buildings hold. The whole experience runs about five hours and includes an air-conditioned vehicle and bottled water.
Is this one for you?Choose the private tour if you're traveling as a family or small group and want the flexibility to set your own pace at each stop. The City Share Tour works better if you're a solo traveler or couple looking to meet other visitors and keep costs lower.
