Panama Canal, Old Town and Amador tour from Panama City
Three engineering and history stops in one morning: colonial streets, working locks, and a causeway over the Pacific.
A guided tour of Panama City covering the Panama Canal at Miraflores, the colonial Old Town of Casco Viejo, the Bridge of the Americas, and the Amador Causeway, with a live guide, entrance tickets and air-conditioned vehicle. The tour runs four to five hours and includes pickup from select hotels. A guide fluent in English or Spanish leads the stops in real time, so you watch ships move through the locks and walk the cobblestone streets without arranging separate entry or transport.

The experience
The tour starts at one of three landmarks depending on your pickup: either the Amador Causeway, a breakwater road linking three islands with front-row views of the canal entrance and the city skyline, or Casco Viejo, the colonial heart founded in 1673. The guide walks you through the maze of cobblestone streets flanked by period buildings, pointing out the Catholic churches and squares. You'll have time to browse the artisan shops before moving on. The route then takes you to the Bridge of the Americas, opened in 1962 as the first permanent crossing over the canal, where you stop at a viewpoint to photograph the structure and watch ships waiting to transit.
The centerpiece is the Miraflores Visitor Center, where you stand on viewing terraces just meters from the locks themselves. You watch the real-time operation: tons of water rising and falling, moving massive ships through the chambers as if they were toys. The center's interactive exhibits explain the history and engineering behind what is considered one of the eighth wonders of modern civil engineering. This is where global trade moves, and you see it happen.
An air-conditioned vehicle carries the group between stops, and entrance tickets to Miraflores are included. The guide speaks English or Spanish depending on the option you choose at checkout. Pickup is available from Playa Bonita or the Westin, or you can arrange to meet the group at a central point in Panama City.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Youth (11 to 17 years); Child (4 to 10 years); Infant (under 4).
What exactly happens at the Miraflores locks when I get there?
Miraflores is where ships transit the canal in real time. You stand on viewing terraces just meters away and watch the locks operate: water rises and falls, moving the vessels through the chambers. The visitor center's exhibits explain the engineering and history behind the process, so you understand what you're watching as it happens.
Is Casco Viejo just a walking tour, or do I get to go inside the buildings?
Casco Viejo is a walking tour through the cobblestone streets and colonial squares. You see the period architecture, the Catholic churches and the life of the neighborhood, and you have time to browse the artisan shopping centers. The guide leads you through the maze and tells the stories of the buildings, but the focus is on the streets and the history they hold.
How long does the whole tour take?
The tour runs four to five hours total, covering all four stops: the Amador Causeway or Casco Viejo to start, the Bridge of the Americas, and Miraflores. Travel time between stops is included in that window.
Do I need to arrange my own way to the starting point?
Pickup is included if you book the option from Playa Bonita or the Westin. If you're staying elsewhere in Panama City, you can arrange to meet the group at a central meeting point instead.
What is the Amador Causeway, and why is it part of this tour?
The Amador Causeway is a breakwater road built over the Pacific Bay, linking three islands: Naos, Perico and Flamenco. It gives you front-row views of the canal entrance with ships waiting to transit, and the Panama City skyline reflecting off the water. It's one of Panama's most iconic engineering works and the perfect place to photograph the canal and the sea together.
