The experience

Eight days, one itinerary, and a guide who knows where to stop. You're met, transferred, and from there the days unfold in sequence: Desert Castles and Amman's Roman Theater on day two, then Jerash and the Ajloun castle, then the Dead Sea at 1,410 feet below sea level where you float without trying. The route follows the Kings' Way south through Madaba, past Mount Nebo where Moses is said to be buried, and into the Kerak castle perched a thousand meters above the valley. Everything is arranged (hotels, transport between sites, a professional accredited guide, breakfast each morning), so you move through Jordan without stopping to plan.

Petra arrives on day six, and you walk the Siq, the narrow canyon that opens onto the Treasury carved into pink sandstone. The Roman Theater, the Courts, the Temple of the Winged Lion. They're all there, and the guide knows the story of each one. Two hours south is Wadi Rum, the desert where Lawrence of Arabia was filmed, and you spend the night in a camp under the stars.
